???? Welcome Back, Glenwood Families!
First Day of School: Thursday, August 14, 2025
Dear Glenwood Families,
We are thrilled to welcome you back to another exciting year of learning, growth, and leadership at Glenwood Elementary! We can’t wait to see our young cubs walk through the gates on the first day of school, Thursday, August 14, 2025.
???? Important Reminders for a Strong Start:
???? Gates open at 7:30 AM – Please ensure your child arrives on time, ready to begin their day.
???? Name Tags – Your child should wear the name tag provided in the Welcome Letter (mailed home in early August).
???? Label Everything – Please write your child’s name on all personal items, including backpacks, lunch pails, jackets, and water bottles.
????️ Breakfast is served at 7:30 AM – Arriving on time allows your child to eat and be ready for instruction, which begins promptly at 7:51 AM.
For UTK, Kindergarten, IDS, and PAL Students:
Breakfast will be served in the classroom, where teachers and support staff will guide students in opening milk cartons, food wrappers, and practicing polite eating etiquette.
☀️ August Heat Tips:
August is a hot month!
Please help your child stay cool by making sure they:
Bring a reusable water bottle
Wear sunscreen and a hat
On heat advisory days, students will remain indoors during recess and lunch. They’ll enjoy indoor PE or a movie in our air-cooled auditorium equipped with cooling fans and misters.
⚠️ Student Health & Safety:
If your child has any food allergies, please inform the main office right away so we can provide appropriate accommodations.
???? Helping Your Child with First-Day Jitters:
The first day can bring up big feelings for students and families—and that’s perfectly normal! Here are some gentle ways to support your child:
The Night Before:
Get a good night’s sleep.
Lay out clothes, shoes, and their backpack ahead of time.
Pack a healthy snack and lunch.
Encourage your child to say positive affirmations, such as:
“I am brave.”
“I will have a great first day.”
“I am ready to learn and make new friends.”
In the Morning:
Let your child wear what makes them feel comfortable—even if it’s pajamas!
Please don’t stress over battles about clothing or shoes. If your child doesn’t want to wear certain clothes or shoes, it’s okay—bring the extras and we’ll support them with kindness here at school.
Reassure Them About Pickup:
Go over who will be picking them up and from where.
⏰ Dismissal is at 2:10 PM on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
???? Tuesdays are early dismissal days at 1:10 PM so teachers can participate in professional development.
Let’s work together to make this a happy, calm, and welcoming first day!
